Asiatic Naja

Asiatic Naja

Postby Warren Klein » Mon Mar 05, 2012 2:34 pm

I would like to share some images of the Asian cobras we used to keep up until recently. Unfortunately this was the first time I made the time to photograph these animals. They are all in tip top condition and would be ready to breed this next season. The first species are a 1.2 trio of Monocled cobra Naja Kaouthia. The second species pictured are a 1.1 pair of Indochinese spitting cobra Naja siamensis. All these specimens are now currently on display at Perry's Bridge Reptile Park in Hazyview. Thanks to Rick and Carolyn for giving these deadly beauties a new home.

Ooh, just what I like! Thanks for sharing!
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.

I thought I would add to this existing thread as these are obviously also Asian cobras and this way I can see all my babies together in one place. These are Sri-Lankan locality Spectacled cobras Naja naja. Although not for everyone these are in my mind some of the most awesome iconic snakes in the world as well as one of Asia’s most deadly. I was sad to see them go but glad they found a new home with Eyelash. Hope you like the pics!

Fantastic photos, absolutely stunning animals. Sri Lankan spectacleds rival forest cobras as my absolute favourite cobra (and thus snake as a whole).

Thanks WW. Looks like we have the same taste in cobras then or should I say snakes ;) . I still have look forward to finding these in the wild one day.

Those spectacled cobras are without a doubt the most classic cobra in the world. If anyone is into venomous snakes and does not own one of these then he they have not lived. They are possibly the most intelligent of the cobras I have had to work with. Keep their humidity nice and high too.

Hi there Warren, been off the forum for awhile so missed this post :) Thought you would like to know both the albino and the suphan laid eggs, within 3 days of each other. Eggs are looking good so far ;) Will let you know the outcome!

Welcome back, that's is great news Iggy! When did they breed and how many eggs did each give you?

Last week Saturday (Suphan) and Tuesday (Albino) - suphan was around 28 eggs, hard to count as they are stuck in a mass, and the albino 22.

That's not bad at all for first time clutches! I'm a bit sad I did not keep them long enough to get eggs myself but I'm glad I don't have to house and raise 50 more cobras! Please post some pics here when they start hatching.

Cheers

Will do :) I agree, getting 50 little monocles up and running is going to be a challenge! Everyone else is also doing well :)
