Puff Adder Baby found in my house

Puff Adder Baby found in my house

Postby Amsie » Sat Nov 10, 2012 8:06 am

I found a Puff Adder baby in my house, and were not happy at all. I cought it in a bottle and took it to my nearest pet shop. Could anybody tell me if I should be on the lookout for more around my house? My garden is very clean and I have no bushes around my house. I even have two fox terriers in my backyard (who warned me when I came across this snake in my kombuis). I suspect it came inside underneath the front door. I know that puff adders get the most live babies of all snakes, so now I am paranoid as I have two small kids. How do I make sure there are no more of them?

1. It was a bad idea to take it to the pet shop. You should of just released it in a nice spot away from your house.
2. I dont think you need to worry. Babies can also move quite a bit,so this baby could of moved far from where it started of.
3. The snake could even be from last years births,so he/she would be far from the mother or siblings.
4. Research (proven) shows that puff adders dont move much as adults but spend there whole lives in an area about the size of a double story garage. This means that if there is a mother around she has most likely lived there for a while and possibly even reproduced before and it hasnt been a problem in the past ,so it wont be a problem in the future.

Amsie are you 100% sure it was a puff adder? Do you have any photographs.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

about the size of a double story garage

Really? Could you provide a reference for this information?
