Hluhluwe-Imfolozi 2012

Went to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi a few times this year, just thought I would share some pics. :)

These two lionesses weren't very happy with each other!

We stopped to look at this big male White Rhino. The car infront took off with his tyres skidding, which gave the rhino a fright, and it charged our car! He chased us up the road before being left in a dust storm!

This Spotted Hyena came right up to the window early one morning when we were watching them at a kill.

I had been watching this big bull elephant drinking at the one hide. He left, heading towards the parking lot. I heard a car door so I ran to warn the people. As I got out of the fenced path, I turned around and saw him a few meteres away! He mock charged, so I just kept still and took photos!

In June I went on a 2 night wilderness trail. I didn't have too much time to look for things, but I found some reptiles I had never seen before. I didn't have a great camera with me so the photo's aren't very good.

Van Son's Gecko (Pachydactylus vansoni)

Common Tiger Snake (Telescopus semmiannualatus)

Large-scaled Grass Lizard (Chamaesaura macrolepis)

Southern Tree Agama (Acanthocercus atricollis)

Great Photo's.

Where about did you get that Van Son's? I know them from only a few pockets in KZN.

Thanks! It was under a rock near the path, not far from the river on the Imfolozi side. I'm sure if we had time we could have found more, there were plenty of rocks to lift up, but most of the group were not so keen to wait for a friend and I checking under rocks. I'm hopefully going on another one in June or July with friends, so I'll look for them again!

Always a joy to browse through your posts. Great picture of the Spottie!
A Shangaan legend states that any man resting or sleeping in the shade of a baobab will become eccentric and forever be enslaved by Africa and its wilderness, guess it's too late for me.
