Hi Guys,

Just a few pics to show my Rinkhals bite on 27 December 2012, was expecting at first neurotoxic systoms but had none. Venom was localised to my finger with some necrosis. A few pics of the cytotoxins these snake have, the snake that bit me was a banded rinkhals from Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape.

Thats not nice. You said the symptoms were 100% cytotoxic?

Did you get antivenom, if so, how much and after how long?

Eish bud, that looks very painful. How did you get bitten? Was it a call out?

Hi Arno, i opted not to take antivenom, and my surgeon agreed at the time, we would wait and see. How much swelling and how much necrosis. After 2 days it was decided that we had made the right decision. I did spend the first night in ICU as the surgeon spoke to a venom specialist, who advised him that very few Rinkhals bites on humans have been recorded and he feared that a delayed neurotoxic reaction could take place 6-8 hours after the bite. All in all it was a painfull bite, i'm still battling to bend my finger, doctor cut all blistering and damaged tissue away, it's now 16 days after the bite. Anyone else have any info on Rinkhals bites, l would love to hear? thanks in advance

Glad to see all went well, Deon! Would not be that awesome to see such a big reptile enthusiast lose a digit or limb to his treasures!

OOC: The guys in EL, please check out Apex Predators Park, it truly is awesome! (Some great work, Mr Nell!)

Shame bud, that was one painful bite! Those cytotoxic symptoms were insane, it just shows not everything fits into the neat little boxes we assign it too. It was nice seeing you over the weekend back in action! :D

If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y'know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids won't walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man, " they'll shout!”
