Blood Python colour change

Blood Python colour change

Postby kfc223 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:39 pm

Hello everyone

I was taking some shots of my male malasyian blood python when I realized how much lighter he got. So after some searching I found a photo that I took the day I got him.

Here is the first photo of when I got him in early July 2012(He hatched in mid April 2012).

Image

As you can see he is a darkish brown with some lighter colours lower down. And I only put him on a substrate for that first week. Since then he has been on newspaper.

This photo was taken in early January 2013 just about six months after I got him.

Please note both photos were shot in the exact same size tub to show how much he has grown in six months.

He is one of my favorites in the collection and is quite rewarding to keep. He is not very aggressive and quite calm outside of his tub. Quite interesting snakes when it comes to feeding and I finally got him to start eating weaned rats.

If anyone has any questions on this awesome species please ask.

He has grown quite a bit there Justin, hopefully you'll be getting a female and breed.

Thanks for sharing :).

Its difficult to judge the colour change with that blackberry photo.

So cool that he isn't too agressive, do you take him out a lot without tongs?

Yes the first shot isn't of good quality.

No no I don't tong him out of the tub Rian, most of the time I can pick him up without any handling equipment but he does have his moods every now and then so a hook always comes in handy.

His colors are amazing. It's amazing how much he's grown, and how much more vibrant the color has become.

I just weighed him and he is 318g which isn't bad considering I feed him once a week.

It was feeding night for the blood tonight and I ran out of weaned rats so I gave him three smaller ones.

My blood has a interesting way of feeding. He is usually a butt eater but I try to get him to take it head first. He only ate one of the three rats head first but at least I tried. He is a pretty slow feeder and it takes him 15 min a rat, so feeding took 45 minutes tonight but I'm happy because he had a nice feeding response tonight.

Here are some shots of how he fed.

And finally done.
