Chondrodactylus Angulifer Lights

Chondrodactylus Angulifer Lights

Postby Oxygen » Sat Feb 23, 2013 3:00 pm

Hi all

I'm getting a breeding pair Grounds soon and was wondering about the lights?

Got a small 6w fluorescent light just for viewing and more light during the day,and got a 75w Night Glo bulb for night o
and got a heating pad 3/4 of the tank for some under heating.

Was wondering do i really need a basking or infra red bulb for these Gecko's to bask?

Hey Oxygen,

I would recommend a basking light rather than a heat pad because ground geckos will burrow to escape heat. In the wild they get their main heat from the sun so a basking lamp is the most natural, if you have a heat pad they will burrow down to escape heat only to get more of it.
1.1.0 Corn Snake (Pantherophis (Elaphe) guttata)
1.0.0 Giant Ground Gecko (Chondrodactylus angulifer angulifer)
1.0.0 Dumerils Boa (Boa dumerili)
1.1.0 Kenyan Sand Boa (Eryx colubrinus loveridgei)
I love JKS forever.

Being nocturnal they dont need UV light but using a basking light will be more like the natural cycles they are used to. Forget about the night glo bulbs. They are a waste of time and money.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

They are great pets, you don't need to worry too much about heat at night the temps in their natural surroundings actually can get really cold so it isn't much of an issue.
