RIP all....

At one stage or the other, we all deal with a death. It is never nice losing a pet and thus, you can share your loss with the rest of us and share your memories so that they will be remembered.

RIP all....

Hi, I just lost almost all my snakes due to a thermostat that didn't switch off. i had troubled with it not switching off when i got the thermo but a change of heater and another change to the setup as suggested by my uncle witch is an ecetric electronic engeneer and all was good for a month. Until today.

We came into the house imediatly smelling something dead. We started searching and found the source of the smell at the snake room... The heat was so intense my one corn snake burst open and some of the ather blew up quite big. (2x their size). The list of snakes i lost is:

0.1 Het albino Ball phython. just got at the previus expo from royal designer reptiles.
1.1 Ball phytons- the female weighing at 950grams.
0.1 Albino corns
1.1 Normal corns

I am pretty heartbroken..... :smt022 :smt022

it was in a racking system. When i got there the temp sayed 47 in the room, the thermos's high temp alarm was going off but it showed it was still heating.

What heat sources did you use?

The amount of heat you are talking about is immense did you have the entire tub heated or only a side?

Something like this happened to me a while back, the thermostat was reading 29 but the tubs were looking steamy and all the snakes were sitting on the cool side, tapped the thermostat and suddenly it was reading 52 and then the alarm went off, managed to catch it and disconnect it in time.

As an precaution I don't use cable that can go that high. Sadly I just bought 2 TC-200 units ,I'm in doubt whether I'll use them.
If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y'know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids won't walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man, " they'll shout!”

It's always a good idea to have a backup thermostat and a cable that won't reach those kinds if temps.

I am sorry to hear about what happened! Good thing the expo is just around the corner
