He means colubrid. Colubridae are a family of snakes like Pythonidae, Boidae, Elapidae and Viperidae.
Some 'key distinguishing points' for me are that Colubrids are either back-fanged / lack fangs altogether, Pythons lay eggs and have heat sensing pits (not all of them e.g Woma Python), Boas are viviparous (although not all e.g Muller's Sand Boa), Elapids have short, fixed fangs at the front of their mouths and Vipers have long, fixed fangs which are also in the front of their mouths.
