Whitelipped colour

Whitelipped colour

Postby Tribby » Mon Jul 15, 2013 7:36 pm

Hey guys, this may be a silly question, but I have searched for answers tirelessly.

Recently I gathered up the courage to purchase a white lip, and have it feeding on pinkies etc.
That is not my question.
He is a male, (white striped along the side) yet he has a red stripe underneath his white stripe?
He is still a youngling at about 6-8 weeks of age.
Does this colour fade away or have I been sold a bamboo pit?

Thanks for your time

Posting pictures of him would be your best bet on getting a definite ID. There are a number of species that could be mistaken for each other, even though they aren't remotely related.

I agree with Wade. You might have a popes tree viper (T.Popeorum) as the whitlip tree viper and popes look similar.

Greetings!

He will keep the brownish/red stripe throughout his life, this never fades.

This is definitely a White-lip tree viper.

Well done getting him on pinks.

Good Evening

Thanks you so much for the feedback!

Are you 100% sure that he is a White-lip tree viper?
I need to be very positive as to what I'm dealing with.

Getting him on pinks was a nightmare!

That's a white lipped tree viper. T.stejnegeri is not that common these days that people would mistake them for WLTV.

Indeed a whitelip. Always a mission getting young/neonate vipers feeding on pinks but once they do take it is extremely rewarding.

Could it maybe be a whitelip x popes hybrid?

Perhaps I had a lucky find?
I too, have never seen a white lip with this sort of colouration.
But a lot of people are saying that it is indeed a white lip.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and help.
I appreciate it.

It has been discussed before (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=31129&p=246665)
That is a Whitelip Tree Viper
