Leopard tortoise

hi

Not very active on site anymore. I overheard some people talking in the office. Some guy is selling leopard tortoise babies for R100 each on Gumtree.
Isn't it illegal? Apperently he has 200 babies. Such a shame because people are buying them and they dont even know, how to look after them :smt021

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Fred, I dont think these are the Sup-thighed Tortoises referred to in that post.

I saw an idiot selling Leopard Tortoises and he claims you only need a permit once the toroise reaches three years age, haha.

LL, it is very easy for us to complain at home and to imagine what we can do or say to this guy, but the reality is, we can't do much.

We can inform the proper authorities and then it's out of our hands.

There is also some guys trying to sell Dwarf Chameleons in KZN.

You find these chops everywhere!

What a winner.

All you need to do is report the add.
If done enough times the adds are removed.

Hey, I just joined the forum today, I happened to come across an Ad on Gumtree for a leopard tortoise and a dwarf cameleon?!?! how can this be stopped? How can people be encouraged like this to take such beautiful rare and indigenous animals out of nature for personal profit, and enabled by a platform to sell these? Look I know there are many things that need to be addressed, but to start with platforms like Gumtree to bann the sale of creatures such as this...

Any ideas? How would one start addressing a problem like this? Who would be the right people to contact? Any help will be much appreciated!!

531759019 the Advert number of the Chameleon on Gumtree.... Please go to http://gumtreehelp.com/za/index.php?a=add AND report this ad
Also Ad ID 531763192 - this is the ad for the baby leopard tortoise!

Please all it takes is two minutes of your time, enough people complain the more likely they are to get rid of the ad!

Simply getting rid of the add is not enough. Personally I would pitch up at the persons house and 'adopt' the animals. But then what...I think public humiliation is in order. If your are able to make comments on online ads such as these then do so, stating the legalities and the fact that the advertiser is doing so outside of the law.
