Venom question

Postby Nasicornis » Thu Feb 06, 2014 2:49 pm

Question; just for the sake of interest, can fresh snake venom be frozen in a conventional freezer? And when thawed, does it maintain it's toxicity?

Its protein based so essentially yes, but it would need to be frozen very quickly to avoid ice crystals, a freezer at -20 or lower should work.
The enzymes would become inactive at -15 celcius also it would need to be thawed out very carefully, and there should be no degredation in its potentcy.
