What you'd like ?

Here is the place to discuss anything not related to reptiles and does not fall into any other catagories.

What you'd like ?

Postby Eyelash » Wed Feb 18, 2015 2:50 pm

Hi guys, just a quick one. Please reply with a list of the top 5 snake species you'd like to see available in SA or more readily available here. NOT the top 5 most expensive/rare snakes, I know everyone wants them but there's only so many that can afford a pair of Bitis parviocula or Zhaoermia mangshanensis.

Thanks and Regards,
Louis.

Well I wouldn't mind that pretty (Possibly pied) Copperhead you have ;)

But realistically, some snakes I haven't seen any, or not many of: Palmetto Corn snake and Mandarin Rat snake are 2 really cool species. No idea how much they cost or would cost here. Saw Scaled Vipers are really cool too, and I don't think I've seen those for sale here, although I stand to be corrected on the availability of all the above mentioned.

I have ALWAYS has a soft spot for these:
1. Piebald Persian Ratsnakes, Zamenis persicus
2. Tanimbar Python, Morelia nauta
3. Tentacled Snake, Erpeton tentaculatum
4. Sunbeam Snake, Xenopeltis unicolor
and last but not least....
5. Trans-Pecos Ratsnake, Bogertophis subocularis (all morphs)

None of these are particularly expensive or rare, they are just not around. I am sure I could think of a bunch more, haha.

I would like to see Pythonodipsas carinata, more of the European viper species and it would be nice if Green Tree Pythons were more readily available.

Ja Louis, you could have guest.
Crotalus cerastes
Crotalus catalinensis
Crotalus durissus unicolor
As a general rule, the more we learn about snakes and their ways, the less fear we have of them. This is usually not so with the Mamba.
The more one learns of his ways, the greater grows the dread of him.
He, without doubt, is the King of Snakes in South Africa.
For quickness, aggressiveness, and the deadly nature of his venom, he has no equal.
