URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!

URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!

Postby reptile » Thu Apr 16, 2015 6:16 pm

Hallo,
I am in need of some urgent advise...
I noticed that my female leopard gecko's jaw is stuck open! It seems to be dislocated. She can't eat and drinking is also difficult for her. Is there any way I can do something or must I take her to the vet?
Thankyou so much for all the help!

Doesn't sound like a problem you can just fix by yourself. If she is still like that this morning I would definitely take her to the vet. Let us know what happens please.

Its still not better... Its the worst ever... She laid eggs about 12 days ago, went strait into shed and has not eaten anything since. Then she shed but dislocated her lower jaw... And laid two more eggs today. Its hopeless. She is very thin and looks terrible but I could not have done anything about it.... Makes me look like a bad keeper. Hope the vet does not think I'm not keeping them properly. I'll take her to the vet as soon as possible.

Sorry man, but I cant offer you any advice, but what I can say is don't worry about what people think of you as a keeper.

You know what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong, so dont let the stress of what the vet might think of you keep from going there. The fact that you are willing to pay to visit the vet shows you are a dedicated keeper.

I know that broken and dislocated joints is a sign of MBD, so maybe read up on that a bit.

Thankyou for the kind words! I was thinking about that too... the previous keeper I got the geckos from had nearly provided no calcium so I guess that is probably the problem. ANy ideas on how to reverse the process? (Process=MBD)

MBD is something that you cant really reverse, but if you are supplementing her diet with calcium it will generally not get worse - with her no eating that is a whole other story though.

I have seen the gaping mouth in a few beardies that were underweight, seems that they loose muscle mass which makes the jaw hang open. This does come right after assist feeding for a while as most of them cant even chew - have not kept/ seen this is leopard geckos though.

Best of luck, hope you come right

Hallo! Yea... The previous owner was not supplementing their food with calcium so she had MBD ... Sadly had to put her down. Thanks for the help though!!
