Securing temperature probe?

Securing temperature probe?

Postby krah » Mon May 11, 2015 2:09 pm

Hi all

So I may be over thinking this, but what is the best way to secure the temperature probe attached to my thermostat? I use it to measure the hot spot in the tub, so up until now I've relied on the plastic suction cap thing, but the other night my snake pulled it loose and moved it to the cool side of the tank causing my temps to spike way to high. Can I simply tape it down? Just a bit worried about using tape with adhesive on it. Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Yeah, don't ever use tape inside a cage or tub.
What substrate are you using?

Ok glad my train of thought was right, thanks. Im just using newspaper... Unless I silicone the suction thing in place? That way I can still remove the wire and probe but hopefully she wont...

Hi krah

I use a hot glue gun to glue the back side of the probe and cable to the cage. Leaving no gap for the snake to pull it of the cage wall.

Hope this helps

Thanks Rudolf

Im trying to avoid that because I remove the tubs to pressure clean them, but maybe I will have to make one tub an exception. rather safe than sorry.

I use cardboard as substrate and run the probe under the cardboard to where it needs to be and then push it through so it sits right on top of the cardboard.
If your snakes don't go under the newspaper then you can do the same.

Thanks guys

I ended up securing only the suction cap thing so I can still remove the probe cable to properly wash the tub, so far so good.
