Hypo Female Finaly Gravid

Hypo Female Finaly Gravid

Hi Every One

Well 6 years ago I got a pair of Hypo redtails and they where tiny.
For the past 3 years I have had the pair together every season hoping for the best and every year went bye with no breeding.
My hypo male sadly passed away last year but I had another very normal but odd looking male that I just thought why the hell not and I introduced him to her.
He tried his best but from what I could see she wanted nothing to do with him at first.
I checked the tank after he was in there for about 14days and he was on the other side of the enclosure where they used to be inter twined. I removed him and offered them both something to eat. He took his rat but she (a non problem feeder) refused. She shed a few weeks later and I started the countdown. Did a sonar and we picked up about 10 heartbeats. She didn't make it easy though as she kept on moving the babies around. After that she took a few small rats but not to often.
I calculated her due date to be around the 20th of October. So yay finally the hypo is gravid.
Just to think I wanted to get rid of her a few years ago :smt021 (Emotional decisions) Sorry bushviper but you are more than welcome to acquire some of her offspring.

Congrats man.

Always nice to have something work out after trying for so long. Some pairs just are not compatible, and both could have had decent clutches with other partners.

Where are the pics of the male?

Looks like your male might have some Sonoran or other dwarf genes. The pattern resembles some of the smaller localities.

I always find it difficult to ID an anery boa from pictures for some reason. In person it's fairly obvious. So I cant comment there.

But fingers crossed for you!

HI Westley.
I doubt that the male is Anery, he is a bit dark and to what I can find about the Anery gene is that they are silvery and "cleaner", but there's not much silver in him.
Well they all chowed yesterday except the female. She refused a small rat again this week. Its getting close now. Im very exited to see what pops out the other end.

It is now 11 days before her estimated due date.
She is laying stretched and flattened out all day. She seems very uncomfortable. Tail flicking side to side like a cat.

Well the countdown is going slow. Its 4 days till the estimated due date. She is stretched the whole length of the tank and fat as hell. She has lost a lot of condition during the whole pregnancy and is quite on the thin side. Very excited to see what pops out when she eventually does pop and then she will be treated to some rats and rabbits.
Holding thumbs!

Well there you go.
Friday evening I came home to discover the first baby popped out.
She delivered 31 babies. 5 didn't make it through the first night by either being stillborn or I missed them and couldn't help them out the sack. 6slugs and one more died on Monday it was just to weak.
At the end of the day the final count was 25 healthy nippy babies. 14hypo and 11 normal looking babies.
Not to shabby for her first batch.

Epic, congrats man. Few stunners in the bunch there, especially the fat little hypo in the bottom of the picture!

Few nice looking normals there too.

Hi Westley, thanks man.
I still have no idea what the markers are for Anery in the babies. So need to do some research to make sure that they are in fact only normal.

The tails are said to be lavender.
Weird thing though my wife has no idea of boa genetics, infact shes never liked snakes until we got married and she had no choice but to like them.
Any way she said some of them look like the have lavender colored tails and according to http://www.blumenboas.com/boamorphs.htm the tails are lavender in color when born.
That just got me thinking a little bit that it might be possible that I have a few Anerythristic babies in there.
