Poor Breeding Season

Poor Breeding Season

Postby rolandslf » Thu Jan 07, 2016 11:41 am

I had a terrible breeding season this year.
Out of 5 pairs of Corns that were paired up, only 3 pairs did the deed. The other 2 pairs ignored each other.
Of the 3 females who bred, only 1 became gravid.

The pairing was male Sunglow Corn x female Albino Corn, so I expect some very nice Albino babies.
The female produced 15 very healthy eggs as seen in the pic below.

Did anyone else experience a terrible breeding season?

Really sorry to hear about your bad season.

Not sure how true it is but believe snakes were also laying very late this season, wondering if it has something to do with us not have much of a winter?

I didn't breed this year but my poor female still decided to drop some eggs.

Not sure how i would have managed to incubate though as the temps have been so high and i usually battle to keep them down.

Yes, I also had a really bad one. None of my BHS or Olive house snakes laid, even though they were copulating and my Aurora's laid a batch of non fertile eggs. There are a few things only copulating now so maybe it is a all bit late this year. I know our weather here was completely off compared to usual this year.

The general consensus in conversations I have had elsewhere is that the screwy weather contributed to a few bad breeding seasons.
This clutch of eggs all look good, and I expect a 100% hatchrate.
