1st clutch of the season

1st clutch of the season

Postby IanM » Tue Jan 12, 2016 11:18 am

Just before Christmas she laid her 1st clutch (T+ x T+), 15 big healthy eggs and no slugs.

Awesome stuff, Ian! Those look like quite large eggs too. Very well done.

Eggs hatched with both T+ and T- albinos in the same clutch
The female laid another 10 eggs shortly before they hatched, so have a few more on the way.

Congrats. Those T negative babies are simply stunning...almost translucent!

I am quite a novice when it comes to BHS morphs. When you have spare time, can you please take a picture of a T negative adults next to a T positive adult? I am curious to see the differences side-by-side.

They vary so much with some being more orange and others more yellow. The biggest difference would be the eyes, T- having the red pupil and T+ black pupils.
Will take better pictures tonight and upload them.

Thanx Ian, very cool.

If you breed a double homozygous animal, does the T- gene completely "overwrite" the T+ gene?

I like the dorsal stripes on that specific T- animal.

I'm not completely sure, but I don't think it would overwrite it. This clutch was from a completely unrelated T+ pair, they both must have been het for T-, which was a nice surprise.

Very interesting genetics.

However, your results would then indicate that the T- gene is dominant over the T+ gene otherwise your T- babies would be something else. Sort of like a Snow, but instead of an Anery T- you simply have a T+T-. Heck, now I am confusing myself, haha.

Either way, congratulations on the babies!

A few more pics to help show you the visual differences between the two...

Interesting breeding, although I don't see much to gain by intentionally crossing different lines of albino in the future.

In theory, all of the hatchling from that pairing should be 100% T+ albino. 50% should be visual T+ albino het for T- and 25% should be double homozygous for both lines of albino although I suspect it would be difficult if not impossible to tell the difference between a double homozygous albino vs. a normal homozygous T- albino as I also suspect both would have red pupils.

What percentage of your hatchlings have red pupils?
