Guide to SA Lizards?

Postby ObscureSnake » Thu Mar 10, 2016 9:45 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good guide to lizards of Southern Africa (preferably in English). I'm particularly interested in information on legless skinks (Acontias, Scelotes, Typhlosaurus, etc.).

Thanks,

Thomas

Field Guide to the Snakes and Other Reptiles of Southern Africa- by BILL BRANCH

this is my personal favourite though a little out of date with all the scientific name changes of late but has good pics and write up of each species

Yeah, I swear by the above field guide. Yes, some species are outdated and new species not displayed, but the book is excellent.

BTW, Bill is busy with the revision. Cant wait!

Thanks for the replies! I'll have to track this book down. I'm not too worried about outdated species. The first rule of taxonomy is that it is constantly changing. As long as the guide offers a good starting point, I'll manage. I also would be very interested in the revised edition!

Bill's guide is great, I've been waiting for the revised edition since 2012 and it's getting closer.
