Difficult for me to have any pity when he of all people having supposedly kept reptiles for over a decade is pictured with a python around his neck like some trophy or play toy

Agreed. These are some powerful and primal animals that never gets 'domesticated' to the same sense or degree as dogs and cats. They won't hesitate to strike, constrict or do what they do at the slightest trigger to defend or eat. Carrying a snake like that around ones neck is nothing short of stupid and reckless...
