platanna. perhaps breeding.. IF LEGAL

Postby EkSkynHeilig » Wed Feb 06, 2008 10:22 pm

hey guys.

I went herping today, and found a old kind of swimming pool, pondish thing.
At closer look, i saw a few platannas in the pond.
now my question is:
what is the law against this frogs?
may i catch and breed with them?
if i may, how should i do it?
does anybody know anything about them?
i've already searched sa reptiles, and found nothing that will help me.
thanx

As long as you don't feed platannas to anything, it's legal. Technically you need a fishing permit, I think... could be wrong on that one.

It's very easy breeding platannas though. I had 2 which were my son's which I threw into our pool (which is broken). It took about a month to see tadpoles and they have already developed into fully developed frogs.

I did however try to take tadpoles out of the pool and put them in a fish pond. They all died :( No matter what I did, they just didn't make it.

These frogs are bred regularly in tanks overseas. Just google it and there will be tons of information for you.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Hi , if you did manage to breed them I would be very happy to buy / adopt some . They are very interesting creatures and I’m trying to get my hands on a few for a tank . If they aren’t available could you tell me what the pond looked like so I could try find a pond with the same stuff . Thx Dylan
