Emperor scorpion

Emperor scorpion

Postby swazi » Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:56 am

Bought a few small emperor scorpions about 6 months ago, the other morning we found 20 babies on the back of one of the (obviously) females. Surprise

Can anyone please tell me WHAT NOW? And any other info i.e gestation period etc :?:

Thanks.
Moved the babies already, found the mother eating one of them. Finding pinhead crickets going to be a problem, don't have a pet-shop within 500km that sells this sort of thing. Any advice on breeding my own?

the babies won't necessarily eat in the form they are in right now.
most likely, they will molt again, and will look much more like actual scorpions, rather than pudgy/fat/weird lookin things.
At that point in time, they will easily take small crickets, or little peices of diced raw chicken (that's what I use, often).

Just ensure mommy is well fed, else she might snack on the babies.

The mother was probably eating the dead or undeveloped babies. If they are still 1st instar and you removed them. Make sure that you keep them in moist tissue and give them proper heat at all times so they can molt to 2nd instar with no problems.

I have them on damp vermiculite but not on heat, what do you suggest and at what temp? One of the babies died this morning.
How long does it take for the first molt?
Think the other female is also going to give birth soon, she seems very swollen.

I suggest 27-30C degrees temps at all times 24 hours a day 7 days a week until it reaches 4th instar. I saved alot of 1st instars Iomachus politus, 6 1st instar Emperor and 2 1st instar Leiurus quinquestriatus using this method.

I also have an Emperor female. I don't want to keep her illegally. Does anyone know where I can find something that tells me what is illegal and not, and also where I can find a permit when needed?

It is legal to keep an Emperor Scorpion.
They are an Exotic species and does not require any permits.
