Indigenous gecko. What is it? [P. maculatus]

During the Durban trip on the 20th of August, i found a small gecko. Could anyone help me to identify it?

I think it is some type of Thick toe gecko.

Looks like a Turner's gecko.

That gecko looks too small to be a Turners and is out of the Turners range. It is probably one of the Thick toed geckos (Pachydactylus) and the only one that is supposed to occur in Durban is the Spotted thick toed gecko.

Sorry the pic is so small. There is a bigger, better one in the gallery.
From what i have seen in a book & from what all of you have said, im going to say that it is a Spotted thick toed gecko. He is a fussy little one & wont touch anything but ants.

Well if that is all he is going to eat then feed him that.

With time he may take small mealworms and tiny crickets too.

If he does not seem to adapt to captivity at least you know where to release him.

I was told its illegal to keep those kind geckos in the Eastern Cape?
I will try getting some ants for mine to eat.

It is illegal to keep any indigenous snakes/lizards and geckos without a permit in Most Provinces of South Africa.

Think I will let it go. Had it for 4 days. The geckos are too expensive in Port Elizabeth. Seeing that I got the tank out and the gravel I should just go and get me some fish then.
