Crocodile Lizards

Does anyone know if Crocodile Lizards (Shinisaurus crocoldilurus) are availalbe in SA and round about what could one expect to pay for them?

Ok, I am not referring to a mythological mysterious beast. There is actually such an animal in existance, promise.

Hey, do you mean a crocodile monitor?

They seem very interesting, but mean as hell. I'm not sure many people keep them overseas, let alone here. If you are meaning a croc' monitor.

I would not cough up more than 2.5 k each.
Then theres also the issue of how they came into Z.A.

I seriously doubt that they would be available in SA. I have only ever seen these occasionally on price lists and at shows and they were very expensive. The first captive bred ones outside China went for about R15 000 a good couple of years ago.

They are not that easy to keep and breed from what I was told. I have no idea what the going rate would be for them but I cannot think that they are cheap.

And its exactly that kind of dream that fuels the addition of new species on our "available list"!

Must say though.....many of my dreams have come true...even though its taken a while!

I remember when even beardies seemed like a pipe dream!?!....
