EXOTIC LIZZARD help needed

Postby mikec29 » Thu Nov 08, 2007 4:58 pm

I was thinking about getting into lizzards, done the snake thing! but was wondering how the following are to care for and get hold of, Prices would help. Iv been looking for a while with little or no luck! my list consists of Anoles, Basilisks, Frilled dragons, Flying dragons, Collared lizzards, Armadillo girdled lizzards, Crocodile skinks (aka Red eyed skink), Ridge tail & bosc moniters and Water dragons! I know my list is long but that is what i would like to get my hands on over the next couple of years![/b]

Most of what you have mentioned here has been available at one stage or another. I just got myself a frilled dragon. There will be some interesting lizards at the SOS expo in March next year, you should come.

For flame bellied armidillo lizards you don't need a permit as they aren't from SA

I think the species he is talking about is Cordylus cataphractus which are actually called armidillo girdled lizards, which I for some reason tend to think they are highly endangered(please correct me if i'm wrong. ) So are you talking about the range of girdled lizards eg:flame bellies or the actual armidillo girdled lizard(c.cataphractus)?

Sorry totally forgot that there was the real thing when I first replied and was only thinking of flame bellies, until you asked what is he going on about then realised what gaboon69 was talking about  .
For the first few months I had them they were very secretive, but as time went on by they would remain under the uvb globe and not run off when I would walk past. They are quick and eat like made, apparently what I remember reading a while back is that they soak water up through their legs, but I haven't seen this or seen them drink so not sure. But interesting lizards I guess.

Flame bellies are also known as Gorongoza girdled lizards. Cordylus mozambicus.

The Armadillo lizard is different and indigenous. All girdled lizards that are found within the borders of SA are protected and getting a permit is very difficult.

Armadillo and Sungazers are both listed as nationally threatened or protected species and from February next year getting keeping permits will be close to impossible and trade will be so restricted that even if you breed them you cannot do much with them.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
