Welcome Niels, you have an enviable collection going there. i dunno if it's just me, but seeing pictures of 'our' South african snakes coming from the Netherlands is just a bit wierd. i have no clue why, i dont see how it is any different to us having corns and rattlers etc.
your Copperheads are awesome, as are your Naja sp.. i hope you enjoy the forum

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen!
I could imagion that is wierd to see some Afican Elapidae in a Dutch collection. I have the same feeling if i see a Vipera berus in a terrarium in a foreign country, in the European countries (where the also live. In the Netherlands it is ilegial to keep V.berus. At my regret, until this day I've never seen this gorgeous animal in the wild... but that wil change in 2009 ;). If I find them next year, I will post some pictures).

Cheers,
Niels

What makes this worse is I cannot think of more than two or three private people in South Africa who have captive bred yellow Cape Cobras, captive bred banded Rinkhals and captive bred banded Snouted cobras together with pure Angolan coral snakes. Why should the people from the Netherlands have to point out what stunning snakes we have on our doorstep.

Niels thanks for the stunning photographs. If you want to see Vipera berus you should contact one of our members "armata" and he will be able to direct you to a place where you can observe them in the wild.

Decent collection man. 'Dit is luik!' :) Love the ruffoi and the gaditana!
To top it off I see you have some really nice Southern-African snakes too.
At this rate we will have to award you citizenship,hehe.Net 'n grapje.
Some of those S.A. species are just as popular here in collections.
Welkom!

Hi Niels, I know of you from some European forums. Welcome here. Some lovely snakes as always. Its always a pleasure seeing that someone has locality data for most of their snakes. This is important I think. Regards. Craig Van Rensburg

Hi Niels,

Very nice snakes.
I know that V.berus has suffered a decline in the Netherlands; my colleague Pedro Jannsen is working on this.
If you cannot find any there nip over to UK next April/May and I'll give you the grand tour.

Thanks for the tip! I know also two gentlemen in the Netherlands who map all Vipera berus in the Netherlands (they make headshot photographs, GPS their location etcetera). I’ve got some tips from one of them for finding V. berus. I’ve got a place where many V. berus live, 100% guarantee ;)

I keep the trip to the UK in the back off my head. Hopefully I graduate in February, so then I can use some relaxation!

Cheers,
Niels
