An Amateur… In every sense of the word.

Hello all,

I'm new to the site and the reptilian and amphibian world in general… I'm not quite sure of the protocol, so I think it's best to introduce myself: Hi, I'm Alex…

If anything else is required, please do inform me?

Down to business, I'm trying to attract more geckos to my house in Pretoria and I'm having trouble doing it. We have cats, so that is always interesting. Is there anyone that can help me out with a few tips or any advice?

Regards,
Alex

Im sure you will find someone on here with big enough boids that will gladly assist with those cats, then you will have more than enough geckos resulting in the lack of cats.
Just kidding... Enjoy the forum and I guarantee you will learn plenty.

Ohhh, cats and reptiles dont mix my friend ;)

I can almost guarantee as long as you have cats, you will not have a large group of geckos at your house.

What you could do is add a couple of additional outdoor lights (lights attract moths and moths attract geckos) and add some nice rock features to your garden to give the geckos some hiding spots.

So I've gathered :/ sadly I can't get rid of the pests, they belong to the people that live in the other part of the house :/ Out of curiosity, what geckos are endemic to the Pretoria area? I'll definitely put in what lights I can!

That's a pity. Pachydactylus affinis occurs there, I think Chondrodactylus turneri, Pachydactylus capensis and Pachydactylus vansoni might occur in some of the surrounding areas.

Day geckos in the form of Lygodactylus capensis are usually prolific as can be House geckos which are an introduced species.
