Permits

Permits

Postby Kobus » Tue Jan 17, 2017 5:55 pm

Good Day,

In November I caught a 35cm, 25g Female Housie and brought it home, because people wanted to kill it. It is now 43cm and 35g.

During this month I caught a 48cm, 45g male housie also people wanted to kill it.

I am afraid to let them go, because I do not know how they would survive. People are very scared of snakes and will kill them.

I would like to get the necessary permits for them. Does anyone know how this is done and where do I apply? Is there any chance that permits would be refused?

I have a stacked wooden set of cages 85cm x 34cm.

I do keep a corn in one of these cages. (151cm, 890g)

Hi Kobus

Welcome.

You will unfortunately never be able to get a permit for a wild caught snake, no matter the reason for wanting to keep them.

Thank You Mitton,

Do you think I should let them free perhaps in a field or in my yard?

Then it would be better to release them in a field rather, away from people. They should do just fine, just make sure you release them within 20km from where they were found.

There are quite a few people who breed BHS and you should be able to get a permit easilly for a captive bred one. Have a look at Ultimate Exotics, they should be at the SOS expo in May, so you can chat to them then and see what they have for sale.
