Re: Looking for a leopard tortoise

Wow I cant believe how difficult Gauteng is. In the Eastern Cape you go to an animal shelter where any confiscated tortoises are taken, you express interest in a tortoise. Nat Con does an inspection to see that the tortoises will be ok in you care and a permit is issued, done!! You may also only hav...

Re: Moving back to SA with Rhacodactylus Leachianus

This is a major mission and depending on the Province in South Africa you are coming too may not even be allowed. Your geckos would need to go through the whole import procedure which is a long and complicated process. This is further complicated by bizarre interpretation of legislation and general ...

Re: Acquiring a Cape Cobra-Eastern Cape

I have kept many Cape cobras and they do very well. Give them a deep cage and a few hides and they settle down very well. I had 3 cb babies that after a year didn't even spread a hood anymore. Permits are easy if you can find snakes that are already on permit. Post a wanted add in the classifieds se...

Re: National Alien invasive listing

Currently there are none. Even red eared sliders have not been proven to be established. Yes they may be in the wild in some places but no breeding has been recorded (latest South African Red Data Book). The likelihood for an exotic reptile to become established is very low in South Africa and the A...

Re: Bitis rhinoceros regurging issue

Are you sure this snake was captive bred? Why is the breeder not assisting you? I suspect that you could have internal parasites as your problem. I would get a sample of any fresh fecal matter to a vet to test.

Re: ferrets legal in eastern cape?

Hi Mariska Cape Nature is in the Western Cape. Ferrets are definitely not legal in the Eastern Cape. You will definitely not get an import permit for one. Kwa Zulu Natal is rather confused at the best of times but even there ferrets are not supposed to be allowed. I’m not sure how you got your infor...

Re: Toxicodryas/Boiga blandingii

The adults are just as nice, in my opinion. They are an extremely under rated species. Remember they are almost never available here either.

Re: Sad to see our hobby being abused by scammers and ...

There are scammers on both sides. Personally I won’t ship any snakes until I have received full payment, shipping included. If the buyer doesn’t know me I am quite happy to give someone in his area as a reference. What is extremely frustrating to me is the amount of buyers who are literally there ju...

Re: Blackheads are at it again !

These are such awesome pythons! I think they have loads of personality and are incredibly beautiful. The South African market needs a lot more of them around. Congratulations Louis!
