My Parabuthus granulatus and capensis

And yes, it seems the female is gravid after I saw her doing things that gravid females usually do, like lingering at a place with higher humidity and tail flicking the male when he was introduced into her enclosure for mating.

P. granulatus is the only Parabuthus with a telson that is that small.

It looks sort of disproportionate to the rest of the tail.

hello.

yes, it is Parabuthus granulatus and it is possible that she is gravid :)
there are 3 color morphes of Parabuthus granulatus. the "dark morphe" is from namibia and the "light morphe" is from western cape.

good luck with this species ;)

Thanks Alex. It is confirmed that she is gravid, she is a lot fatter now than in that picture.

I also agree on P.granulatus, due to telson size. Shadowfoot, keep her warm (28-30degrees), and very well fed throughout, otherwise she might reabsorb the embryos. Higher temps also speed up the gestation a little bit As Alex said, keep stress to a minimum, and make sure there is some humidity in her burrow (don't over do this though). Hoping all goes well!

Thanks man, the temps are good, they never drop below 27. She also has a very small waterbowl in her enclosure, which I have seen her drink from. She gets fed about twice a week at the moment where as the male is only fed every 10 or so days.

Hi,

if you happen to come across a male P. granulatus, please let me know.

Also, are you sure your P. capensis isn't P. raudus? Does it stridulate alot? Can you see the notch for stridulating on the tail of your capensis? The cherry sting is capensis, but not the last few tail segments as well? I have very light specimens of P. capensis from Kleinzee and the more common darker phase from Sprinbok, in both only the sting is cherry...colour variation within a species of scorpion from different locations is quite mind blowing.

Hi,

you should also be able to see the babies through the plura on the sides and underneath - they should appear as white oval shaped "blobs" :)
