Can anyone help ID this little guy

Postby remotemedic » Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:24 pm

Hi there
I am a medic on a remote site in Botswana, In the Kgalagadi region. This scorpion was found in camp and I am struggling to identify it online. it was approx. 10- 12 cm in length and approx. 2.-3 cm in width. (Unfortunately the pics of it on the ground never came out so this is once we had it in a small bucket just before releasing it) Can anyone help out. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

That is one of the Burrowing scorpions of the genus Opistophthalmus, most likely O. wahlbergii.

They have a relatively mild venom which is comparable to a wasp sting (or even slightly milder).

Cheers
