@ Fooble - Those are Green Wood Hoopoe Phoeniculus purpureus They used to be know as Red Billed Wood Hoopoe Their range is very wide in Central and Southern Africa. They are quite common especially in bushveld areas. They are also well known for being very noisy buggers :)

Very Interesting Video. Where was this taken? Was it a pet snake on a lawn?

Biosmith why did they change the name? I have always know them as Red-billed Wood hoopoe and the bird in my eyes is more black than green! Love them though.

@ Pythonodipsas - Yeah they do look black from a distance but closer-up they have a uniform green chimmer over their bodies, so I think some bored bird fundie :) decided to change the name to the dominant colour of the bird. In my opinion the red bill is more conspicuous and they should have kept the old name :smt017
@ Fooble - That pic is indeed the African Hoopoe that you will find everywhere In SA. A beautifull bird!
Now we can stop about birds and change back to reptiles again

Jip...I got this Rock python about a year ago from a ock saying that it was sick but it wasn't the case...I took him outside to chill on the lawn everyday for about a month before letting him go...he was chilling outside my window when I saw the birds going mad !
