Prep for Honeymoon in December

Postby Kev » Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:14 pm

So, my fiancé and I decided to skip the big wedding, take the money and run.
We thought it would be better to use the money and go on honeymoon and have just finalized our plans to go to Bali in December.
I have been in contact with Bali reptile rescue and organised a herping trip into the jungle one night and earmarked a few days for herping.
Luckily my fiancé is also into snakes.

If anyone has any info on Bali that they would like to share I would greatly appreciate it.

I have done a some herping over the last few years but never really got into photographing the things I found and I have decided to change that.
I wanted a test run before jumping in on a new camera and lens, so I loaned so equipment from my pops and got stuck in... here are the results.

The first shots of George my corn snake were taken in the dark last night with the aid of the built in flash on my dads Canon 450D.

What do you think?
Any pointers?

Fantastic pictures!
I also like George, your corn.
If the quality of the photos you take was what you were worrying about then you have no problem!
1.2.0 Ball Python
1.1.0 Corn Snake
1.0.0 Honduran Milk Snake
0.0.1 Mexican King Snake

Wise decision to do something for yourselves instead of some silly ceremony. Then all your photos will be "wedding photos".

Nice shots, what lens were you using?

The honeymoon seemed like a much better way to spend our money as apposed to spending it all on one day.

I used a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens
It's amazing what a difference it makes using some decent equipment,
well in comparison to my old Panasonic that is.
There will defiantly be more pics of future field excursions, can’t wait.

Herping on hunnymoon! You married the right girl!

Here's what I think. If that last photo is in your back yard in the AFTERNOON then you need to move! Nice macros shots. Just remember landscape photography where the snake is not always the main focus point of the photo is always good.

Enjoy guys.

Thanks DK. The depth of field is always a bit of a difficult thing for me (with the macro lens) I have no problem focus stacking in Photoshop but that's a no no for a moving target.
I think I'll get one or two of my snakes out for a bit of a photo shoot in the garden and see what I can come up with if it's not to cold this weekend.
Hoping to get my shots tip top for my trip in December so any advice is well recived!

While I'm on the topic here is a pic of my fiance the day after I proposed in Drakensburg with a little Natal Green snake, sorry not the best pic but that's cell phones for you.
