Sad Herping

Sad Herping

Postby Rishaad » Tue Jan 12, 2010 1:49 pm

Did some very unproductive herping last week friday at North Park nature reserve, Palmiet nature reserve and also locally in my area. Unfortunately I didn't find any snakes except for this DOR:

Wow, that really is sad. Thelotornis capensis capensis right?

NIce but not so nice.
Cool to find the Vine snake. Herping thickets like that is not as easy as most would think either.

That's it man. Felt like crying when I saw this. Palmiet is much more thick than it was the last time we herped there, its like almost impossible to find a rock to flip.

Ahh man that sucks!!!
You can almost just picture a Gaboon lieing in the leaf litter in that first habitat pic, if only you were somewhere further up the coast.

True, but with the right conditions and a remote location, one has to come right.

Yeah but the difference with Fiskis and Gaboons is that alot more Gabbies have been found than Fiskis ( 20-30 i believe?).

I know don't stress ;). Thats something i have to see before i die, a Gaboon in the wild. I think in the next couple of years we have to make a mission up north to Cape Vidal or St lucia to find some giants!
