Hi Snake 5. With open wounds like this I've used an interesting method that seems to be quite effective. One was on a Cerastes that had a large chunk removed from it by a stick ot something.

I applied Betadine to the wound first and then stuck sugical gauze over the hole and super-glued the edges to the snake. I then sprayed 'New Skin' (stuff for sports related blisters and grazes etc. )over the gauze. I repeated this, letting it dry in between spraying sessions until the whole thing was sealed up and rubbery to the touch. After a shed, the hole was half the size and a fine membrane had formed everywhere but the very centre. I cleaned it out, reapplied Betadine, and re-did the gauze and new skin thing. This snake is missing about 7 ribs currently, but is as healthy as they come, despite having a huge chunk of it's anatomy missing. I'll post you a few pics tomorrow.

Now, all you guy’s still need to do is to spray the wound with Panthox. It contains d-Panthenol (which aid in shortening the healing period), a broad-spectrum antibiotic and it has antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Here are the pics of the Cerastes that I mentioned. You can see by the scale of the damage what she must have looked like when it happened. She was about half the size then.

On the same subject, we got called to BP oil company to remove a snake only to find a baby horned viper nearly chopped in half! This after we gave the entire staff a free lecture, posters, our number (5 minutes down the road) and everything else.

Eish.

Wow that must have damaged an organ or two. Pretty close to the heart too. Glad to see she is doing so well and a little on the chubby side, so feeding is obviously not a problem.

Sorry to hear that, at least you tried to do something for him.
