Thread snake / worm snake

Thread snake / worm snake

Postby Arnout » Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:49 pm

Hi,

During my visit to the Waterberg, I also found several of these thread snakes.
Do I have the right ID on them; Leptotyphlops incognitus?

My book only mentions L. scutifrons and L. conjunctus as to be present in the area.
However, both species descriptions do, to my opinion, not fit the picture of this specimen.

Kind regards,

Arnout

It's very difficult to tell the exact species of the Leptotyphlops just by looking at it.

To be honest, I think most guys (myself included) just go roughly by distribution.

At least you've got the genus right, but narrowing it down to species isn't the easiest without magnifying glass and lots of time on your hands.

Hi Westley,

That is a true pity indeed.
I find them very attractive and got to find them quite regularly.
As for now, I'll just stick to the genus.

Thanks again.
