Jungle Carpet Python Feeding in Slow Mo

Jungle Carpet Python Feeding in Slow Mo

Postby Tyronen » Tue May 20, 2014 10:43 am

This morning I took a slow motion video of my 6 month old Jungle Carpet Python Male feeding on a rat pink/pup. This little guy is so quick everything is over in a blink of an eye so I thought a slow motion shot would be cool.

Check out the video here ->

Enjoy :)

Cool video and a feisty little snake...

Just a quick question, I see you keep your babies in 11L addis tubs.
What do you use for your adults?
Cages or big tubs?

If you could post a few pictures of your setups ill really appreciate it.

Thanks

Howzit,

With the my Jungle Carpets you really have to mind your fingers as the feeding is an extremely enthusiastic exercise normally! Also they constrict the prey item so hard that I've had a few frozen thawed Rat pups sort of burst

Yes I've got the male a +- 6 month old JCP (50g) in the 11L tub rack, I estimate he will be in the tub for about another 12 months or so or until he's about 170g. I've also got a female yearling (232g) who is bigger. She is in +- a L 900mm x W 450mm x H530mm cage. This size cage has a lot of head room for climbing up on her perch and I think will probably be enough for her as an adult. They don't get thick and huge as adults and stay rather slender, I think the adults look smallish all coiled up and it's only when you pick them up do you see the size. Pretty much the perfect safe size python if you ask me and not a danger to handle at all.

I've sort of followed Mittons guidelines from his website.

My cage setup is simply a couple of L 900mm x W 450mm x H530mm cages and L 1200mm x W 450mm x H530mm cages all stacked nicely. I purchased them all from the same place (The guy on the stage at the Randburg Expo). Then I also built a rack to fit perfectly in some spare space. Thank you bud. Appreciate the help.

I'm sitting with a nice group of 2 males and 3 females.
I was busy planning on building them cages of 1200x550x550 but we moving to a townhouse now so decided that ill have to sell them...

Not happy but space is a issue.

You don't have to keep them in cages that size, I have quite a few adult Carpets and keep\breed some of my bigger Jungle females in 90x45x45 cages.
I keep some of my smaller adults and most of my sub adults in a rack system, the CB70 tubs.

I ordered CB70 tubs but still haven't received them so I went and bought 120Ltr tubs which is similar to the 56L addis just bigger.
But I noticed that their feeding has gone down as they don't really like these to much.
I have pvc pipes mounted for ledges but they don't seem interested in them.

I really like these snakes and their placid attitude is what I like unlike redtails.
Im still deciding if I will keep them or sell them.

The 2 males and 2 females are coastal.
The other female is a jungle which is the best eater ever!!!
She nailed rats like a monster..

But thank you for your help.
I wanted bigger cages for them as they are coastal and wanted to keep them in groups.
Will they be fine kept together or must they rather be split ?
