Crested Gecko Feeding Plan?

Crested Gecko Feeding Plan?

Postby gekosin » Mon May 06, 2013 3:31 pm

I got 2 cresties at the expo this past weekend, prior to this I had already done a ton of reading about them, my only concern is the eating plan/ diet... I bought 2 different varieties of CGD but have yet to see an eating plan that includes purity (baby food) also as they are still small is it better to feed them their live prey in tubs to ensure they both eat? I dont want a situation where one is over weight and the other under.

Below are some of the eating plans I have found.

Plan A

Monday: Offer fresh Original Flavored CGD in evening
Tuesday: Leave CGD in all day
Wednesday: Remove old CGD and replace with fresh in the evening
Thursday: Leave CGD in all day
Friday: Remove old CGD and replace with fresh in the evening
Saturday: Leave CGD in all day
Sunday: Remove Old CGD

Plan B

Monday: Offer fresh Day Gecko Diet (same stuff as CGD, but cherry / fig flavored) in evening
Tuesday: Leave DGD in all day
Wednesday:Remove old food and replace with new in the evening
Thursday: Leave food in all day
Friday: Remove old DGD in evening
Saturday: Offer 3-6 appropriately sized dusted insects per gecko (insect should be no larger than space between geckos eyes)
Sunday: No Food

Thanks

You must include roaches in the diet.

After every second meal you add a few nymph lobster roaches.

Monday: Offer fresh Day Gecko Diet (same stuff as CGD, but cherry / fig flavored) in evening
Tuesday: Leave DGD in all day
Wednesday:Remove old food and replace with new in the evening
Thursday: Leave food in all day
Friday: Remove old DGD in evening
Saturday: Offer 3-6 lobster roach nymphs (don't dust them) per gecko
Sunday: No Food

You don't have to use CGD. I use a mixture of non citrus fruits. Just no apples or pears, but there is nothing wrong with the CGD I just prefer the fruit mixture it's your choice if you want to use the mixture or the CGD.

Its not necessary to give them any insects.

These guys can do quite well without any insects, I just give mine some as a bit of exercise(stalking the roach and then grabbing it) because I don't offer it to him on forceps.

I just blended a bunch of bananas, plums and paw paws; it was about R60 fruit and it made about 2L of crestie food. I just packaged it and put it in the freezer, it should last me quite a while.

I always leave a food bowl with the fruit mix in with him, changing it every second day. I just give him some roaches once or twice a week. I dust his food(fruit) with a bit of calcium every second feeding(4 days).

Once again the new pet paranoia sets in, how can we be sure that the little guys are eating? I have been following the guides provided but so far have not seen the little guys eat. I know they are nocturnal but it would definitely put the mind at ease to see them eating :x

If the food bowl is full every time you put new food in they are not eating.
