I bet you are all thinking Black Mamba. Nope, this one was a Green Mamba.
I got called out to another Estate, luckily my boss let me go.
The call was for a black snake about 2 metres long and quite thick. I immediately consulted with my Mentor, Byron, about the fact that I highly doubted that it would be a Black Mamba in Umhlanga Rocks and set off to do the catch.
On arrival I saw quite a thick green snake, Yes - Black changed to Green during the time I took to get there.
To cut a long story short, it was a green Mamba I estimate to be about 1.5 metres in length.
Byron will post some pics as soon as he is able.
I initially tonged the snake about 50cm from the head, it was biting the tong quite a lot. I got the Security Officer who assisted me to tong the snake a bit closer to the head, I fear he went a bit overboard in the pressure he applied, however the padded Bushpig tongs I was using do not really cause too much injury to snakes. I then pinned the head with my hook and after necking it safely put it in a bag.
