Hi all
Sorry not exactly sure where to post my query, still new here.
Anyway, walked into my kombuis last night and lo and behold there's a baby snake on my floor, just parking there.
I went closer to get a better look and see if i could pick him/her up and put him outside but he raised his head and I got a bit sceptical.
He was brownish grey on top with a bright orange by his throat which faded to white down the rest of his underbelly.
I've been googling but can't seem to find what type it may have been.
Any suggestions?
We often find Rinkhals around Midrand but this definitely isn't one.

It is never a good idea to pick a snake up if you are not 100% certain what it is. Even if it does not raise it's head or goes into a threat posture can it give a bite if you pick it up.
Best would be to try and get as clear as possible picture of the snake, head shot would be best, post it here and we can try and identify it for you.
From your description, it sound like it could have been a Red Lipped Herald, they are quite common in your area.
Google that and see if it looks the same.
Best is to use a broom and just sweep it outside or even better, into a bucket and then go release it away from your house.

I'm also from around centurion side, and it defenitely sounds like a Red-lipped herald to me. It is mildly venemous but worse case cenario you will get a migrain. Hope it can help for future.

Your description doesn't sound unlike a Mozambique Spitter. Being from KZN im not sure how common they are around Midrand but worth being cautious.

Mozambique spitters are not common in Midrand but depending on exactly where this was seen it could possibly be that. They are found more on the western side. From the description it could possibly have been a baby spitter especially the bit about raising the head.
