Goodbye Electra RIP - You were a star!

At one stage or the other, we all deal with a death. It is never nice losing a pet and thus, you can share your loss with the rest of us and share your memories so that they will be remembered.

Goodbye Electra RIP - You were a star!

Postby Rishaad » Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:20 pm

To make a bad day yesterday even worse I got home only to find my Burmese Python dead in her enclosure. I noticed she was lying a bit funny and thought she was maybe just sleeping like that as she sometimes did. When I opened the cage and touched her there was no response at all. I am shocked and saddened, really did not expect this as she was fine over the weekend.

She helped to break hundreds or even more snake fears over the years and was the star of my shows and educational demos. When I first got her she was quite small as her previous owners only fed here once a month even when she was a hatchling? I am uncertain as to whether this had anything to do with her short lifespan.

The only change to her enclosure was an additional brick added to the water bowl to stop her from toppling it over. The brick was washed thoroughly with boiling water as I did the previous one.

RIP Electra, you will be sorely missed.

Rishaad sometimes these things just happen. We all question why, but if you know you looked after her to the best of your ability then it could be one a hundred different reasons. Snakes cannot talk so there is no way of knowing in advance that something is wrong.

Thanks everyone. I guess you are right Arno, we don't even know whats going on inside their bodies either.

It was difficult carrying her dead lifeless body to the backyard to bury her. To make it worse she died stretched out and rigor mortis had already set in so I had to literally dig a 3m + trench type of hole.

Sorry for your loss :( We also recently lost our huge 12 year old iguana, he was looking magnificent so we also had no idea something was wrong :( Very sad to lose a friend.

I'm really sorry to hear of your loss.

"Normal" people don't realise how much our snakes mean to us, but all I can say is go and get yourself a new baby right away!

The great legacy she has left behind opens up a door for a good home to a new animal that will definitely pick up from where she left off and make her proud...
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.
