Hi there,

I found these geckos around my backyard, and I was hoping that someone could ID them.

I live in Richards Bay, KZN.

Sorry about the poor image quality.

Can someone please id them, and thank you,

A small colony of Oxyhaloa dubia, two Tivia sp., an unidentified species of Cockroach, 8 tadpoles, 3 dogs, 4 cats, a budgie, and some other random animals.

Am I correct in saying that they are invasive, or is that just an old wives tail?

Technically speaking the species occurred in the Far Eastern regions of Kwa Zulu Natal (KZN was bottom of it's range in Southern Africa) naturally but due to allot of man intervention ( as with the Cape Dwarf Gecko - Lygodactylus capensis) it's range has been dramatically extended and now is found in many provinces where it was never naturally found.

They are prolific and have been recorded in other parts of the world including parts of the US.

I am not sure invasive is the correct term. They have been distributed throughout SA and why do we say this is unnatural. I have them in my garden and they dont compete with the Dwarf geckos or the skinks so why should they not stay?

I agree with Bushviper. As they are not nuisance and they get rid of mosquitos plus they pretty and cute.
