Identify Gecko or lizard Plz

Hi
My dad works away from home(Cape-Town) all the way in the freestate some where,he got home this morning driving for 8-9 hours
he gave me a box with a lizard in and said he saved it from a field fire some where.Does some one know what tipe of lizard or Gecko it is
I put it in a tank with a heat lamp water and some mealworms o and some hides so we will c how it goes.Was thinking if i release it it wont make it

It's a Southern Rock Agama (Agama atra).

Thx allot will do some research:} O and was in Northern Cape not Freestate

My father is leaving on Monday again so maybe i must give it back to him to set it free:}don't
know if you can keep theme if they will survive?

These don't do well in Captivity.

Release it.

Ye was thinking that,you think i can release it here in the cape or rather wait till my father goes back?

Nope it would be illegal to release it anywhere except where it came from. Till Monday just keep it warm and give it a shallow water dish and possibly some insects you will find in your garden.

Your Dad surely meant well saving its life but at least put it back where it can find others of its own kind to breed with.

They do very well in captivity, but it is best to release in the area that it was originally found in.
1.0-reticulated python (Ripcord)
1.1-burmese pythons
5.5-brown house snakes
1.0-taiwanese ratsnake
3.8-BCI
1.1-corn snakes
1.2-rhombic skaapstekers
1.0-yellow rat snake
