Snake Quiz for the new site

Here are a few pics... any ideas what it is??.. little hint, its not a natal black snake, and thats 30cm on the tape measure and its total body lenght is 92cm and its not fully grown, and respond with whole scientific name.... not just genus

and yes, as you can see in the photos, it stands up very much like aspidelaps and spreads a narrow hood....

so, to get an idea of size, here is a pic, sorry about the stink-eye, i was a bit stressed, these guys have killed people

or

I don't know of any other Atractaspis that would get that big except maybe A. irregularis?

Atractaspis donaldi ? hehe no idea man I also thought microlepidotus but yus whatever it is , that is one mean looking reptile , are they aggressive ? I see you got the tape measure close enough that could have been risky ....

oOk, it was kind of a trick question. It was, until recently, Atractaspis microlepidota, but the have put the east African population into the species Atractaspis fallax.

They are very cool snakes, mean as hell, unpredictable, fast moving and deadly. An adult was killed in 6 hrs from a bite by one of these. Their close relationship with elapids is becoming more obvious .... Much more work is needed in this whole genus
